What is a Woman according to Rachael Maskell
"The Labour Party adheres to two firm principles. Firstly, there have been huge strides in women’s rights, led very often by the Labour Party, and we will always act to preserve them. We are committed to the Equality Act and the protections it contains, including provision of single sex spaces, such as refuges for vulnerable women. The Equality Act is one of Labour’s proudest achievements and we will never waver from upholding it. Secondly, trans people must also be treated fairly and with respect. The current process for gender recognition is now almost twenty years old and in need of reform. There are indignities in that process that can be addressed by modernising legislation. That modernisation can and should be consistent with the Equality Act."
